Together 2030 and Uniting to Combat NTDs join forces to push for SDG implementation and leave no one behind

1st March 2018

Together 2030 and Uniting to Combat NTDs have joined forces to support civil society tackling neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) at national and local level to actively participate in the implementation and accountability of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

The elimination of NTDs is an SDG target (3.3) backed up with a treatment coverage indicator. However, NTDs are also interconnected with other relevant and important aspects of the 2030 Agenda. As implementation of the 2030 Agenda starts to gather pace, and as governments develop plans for their implementation, it is critical that sectors, such as those working on NTDs, are able to actively participate and contribute to the implementation of this comprehensive agenda. The 2030 Agenda recognizes the important role that civil society should play in ensuring both policy coherence and universality. The interlinked nature of the SDGs also calls for inter-sectorial engagement and the NTD sector has a role to play in bringing its expertise and connecting with other sectors to support the achievement of the Goals.

Together 2030 will be acting as a resource for Uniting to Combat NTDs and civil society, especially in the global South, to support their engagement with the 2030 Agenda at national and global level. This will involve building capacity, providing access to the wider Together 2030 initiative and linking in with national SDG civil society organization coalitions. Together 2030 will also facilitate spaces for the dissemination of information and policy positions from Uniting and NTD partners with wider civil society.

Together 2030 and Uniting will collaborate on key activities that will benefit both the NTD community and wider civil society. The aim will be to support NTDs to become mainstream in the SDG discussion and ensure an NTD voice in SDG discussions. This will include joint webinars and blogs on the Together 2030 and Uniting sites, as well as galvanizing mobilizing countries to properly report on NTDs in their VNRs.

More information will be disseminated as the partnership unfolds.
